Solar surface irradiance from new meteorological satellite data

چکیده
This paper presents the first prototype of a new method, for assessing solar surface irradiance, benefiting from advanced products derived from recent Earth Observation missions. This method -called Heliosat-4is based on the radiative transfer model libRadtran and will provide direct, diffuse components and spectral distribution of solar surface irradiance every 3 km and 1⁄4 h over Europe and Africa. The advantage of the Heliosat-4 method is the simultaneous computation of direct and diffuse irradiances. The outcomes of this prototype of Heliosat-4 method are compared to ground measurements, of direct and global irradiances, made at 4 stations in Europe and Northern Africa. The results show that standard deviation attained by the Heliosat-4 method for global irradiance is fairly similar to that attained by current methods. A significant bias is actually observed and discussed.

Surface Solar Irradiation Maps from Seviri Msg Data
Geostationary satellites, such as Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) or GOES, represent a key element in monitoring and forecasting the state of the Earth’s atmosphere [1]. Nevertheless, these satellites are useful for the estimation of solar irradiance, since the knowledge of the radiance reflected by clouds is the basis for the calculation of the transmitted irradiance. As a matter of fact, an ...
متن کاملShort term forecasting of solar radiation based on satellite data
Forecasting of solar irradiance will become a major issue in the future integration of solar energy resources into existing energy supply structures. Fluctuations of solar irradiance have a significant influence on electric power generation by solar energy systems. An efficient use of solar energy conversion processes has to account for this behaviour with respective operating strategies. Examp...

Appropriate information on solar resources is very important for a variety of technological areas, such as: agriculture, meteorology, forestry engineering, water resources and in particular in the designing, sizing and monitoring of solar energy systems. Solar radiation is observed by means of networks of meteorological stations. However, the availability of observed solar radiation measurement...
متن کاملHelioClim - 3 : a near - real time and long - term surface solar irradiance database
—HelioClim-3 is a database containing surface solar irradiance assessed every 15 min from images taken by the Meteosat series of satellites since 2004. It covers Europe, Africa and Atlantic Ocean. In average, comparison with hourly measurements made in meteorological stations yields a correlation coefficient greater than 0.9, a relative root mean square error (rRMSE) around 20% of the mean meas...
متن کاملDetecting Absorption of Solar Radiation By Clouds With Satellite Imagery Processing
Solar irradiance data are crucial to PV system performance analysis. Although lightmeters (or pyranometers) have been applied in utility-level solar farms, they are not economically feasible for commercial/residential-level solar sites. Publicly accessible data, such as meteorological satellite imagery, are potentially an ideal source to meet the emerging demand. This research applied satellite...
